We designed and launched our own blind box, <strong>EQSO The Crew<\/strong>. Here is the method, step by step, with what we learned along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-exactly-is-a-blind-box\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What exactly is a blind box?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A blind box (or mystery box) is a closed box containing <strong>one figure picked from a series<\/strong>, and you don\u2019t know which one until you open it. The customer knows the series and the list of characters, but not the one they will get. The fun comes from the surprise, the collection to complete and trading between collectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a brand, it is a powerful format: it creates repeat purchases (people buy again to complete the set), conversation (people show off what they found) and value around a character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"how-many-characters-should-you-plan\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How many characters should you plan?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a balance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>too few<\/strong> characters, and the series is completed quickly;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>too many<\/strong>, and it becomes discouraging\u2026 and expensive, because each character needs its own moulds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For EQSO The Crew, we chose <strong>six regular characters<\/strong> (Skully, Vandal, Purple, Cherry, Supagreen and Cyclo) and <strong>one secret figure<\/strong>. It can be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a <strong>secret character<\/strong>, shown only as a silhouette on the box;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a <strong>rare variant<\/strong> of an existing character: another colour, a metallic or glow-in-the-dark finish\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its ratio sets how rare it is. In The Crew, the secret figure has <strong>1 chance in 100<\/strong> of appearing in a box. This packing plan is as important as the moulds. If it is aimed at collectors, the age warning must be visible.
