Custom figure manufacturing, from prototype to production run
Your character already exists, as a drawing or a 3D file? We turn it into mass-produced figures, with the care of a collector’s art toy.
You already have a character, a mascot or a 3D file, and you want to see it for real, in a few hundred or a few thousand copies? That is exactly what we did for our own EQSO art toys. We take care of your project from file preparation to boxes delivered, with one single point of contact in France.
Who is it for?
- Brands with a 2D mascot that want to turn it into a figure (premium merchandise, client gift, licensed product).
- Creators and studios who have a 3D file and are looking for a partner for mass production.
- Shops, museums, clubs and events that want an exclusive object to sell or give away.
- Brands preparing a launch that want a collectible object around their product.
What’s included
- Analysis of your character or file: what can be manufactured, what needs adapting.
- 3D preparation for production: part splitting, wall thickness, assembly points, undercuts.
- The prototype, 3D-printed in resin, to check volumes and proportions.
- Colour references (Pantone) and the paint plan.
- Follow-up of mould making and the pre-production sample.
- Mass production, quality control and packaging.
- Shipping and customs to your door, worldwide with rare exceptions, by sea or by air: it is included in the quote.
Which material for which figure?
The right material depends on your quantity, your budget and the finish you want. Here are the main families:
| Material | Best for | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rotocast vinyl | Art toys, collectible figures | Hollow, light pieces, matte art toy feel, large sizes possible | Less fine detail than injection, moulds to amortise |
| Injected PVC | Large runs, blind boxes, small figures | Very precise, low unit price in large runs | Expensive steel mould, only cost-effective in volume |
What about resin? It needs no steel mould and suits a few dozen pieces, but requires a lot of manual labour. We do not offer it: our minimum orders start at 300 pieces, in vinyl.

How it works
- Brief and analysis: quantity, size, budget, launch date, use (toy or collectible).
- 3D preparation of the model for manufacturing.
- 3D-printed prototype, to approve in hand.
- Moulds and pre-production sample: this is the “final” figure you approve before the run.
- Mass production and painting (spray, pad printing, hand finishing depending on the design).
- Quality control and packaging.
- Delivery.
Deliverables
- An approved prototype, then a pre-production sample.
- Your figures, produced, checked and packed.
- The production 3D files, the packaging files and the colour plan.
- The test reports and compliance certificates matching the figure’s intended use.
Options
- Packaging: polybag, simple box, collector box, blind box with display.
- Certificate of authenticity and numbering for a limited edition.
- Special finishes: metallic, glow-in-the-dark, flocking… depending on feasibility.
- Character design if you are starting from scratch: see our custom mascot design service.
How much does it cost?
Orders of magnitude
The price of a figure depends on quantity, size, material, number of colours and packaging. Tooling (moulds) is a fixed cost: the bigger the run, the more it is spread out.
Manufacturing prices per piece observed on the market, excluding tooling, for a figure of around ten centimetres: often over €20 below 500 pieces, around €6 to €10 at about 2,000 pieces in vinyl, and under €5 from 5,000 pieces in injected PVC. At Popterror Studio, projects start from €10,000, with a tailored quote. Payment: a deposit when the project starts, then the balance when you receive the figures.

FAQ: figure manufacturing
What is the minimum quantity to manufacture a figure?
It depends on the technique, because the tooling (the moulds) has to be spread over enough pieces. Our minimums: 300 pieces in rotocast vinyl and 1,000 pieces in injected PVC.
Which material should I choose for my figure?
Rotocast vinyl gives hollow, light pieces with an art toy feel; injected PVC is precise and cost-effective in large runs. Resin suits very small runs, but we do not offer it. We advise you based on your quantity, budget and use.
How long does a production run take?
Once the prototype is approved, allow about 3 months until the goods leave the factory: 1 month for the moulds, 2 weeks for the pre-production sample, 1 month of production, then 2 weeks of quality control and boxing. Shipping then takes 6 to 8 weeks by sea, or 10 to 15 days by air. From brief to delivery, a project usually takes 6 to 8 months.
Where are the figures made?
The figures are designed in France by our team, then produced in our partner factory in China (Shenzhen region), which we follow closely.
Can my 3D file be used as it is?
Rarely: a 3D model made for rendering is not necessarily manufacturable. We adapt it to production constraints (part splitting, wall thickness, undercuts) before starting the prototype.
Do the figures comply with safety standards?
If your figure may end up in children’s hands, it must meet the EN 71 toy standard, the phthalates content regulation and REACH. For a collectible reserved for adults, labelling is different. Compliance tests are carried out by a specialised laboratory.
Can you handle the packaging?
Yes: polybag, simple box, collector box or blind box with display. We design the packaging together with the figure so the whole thing is consistent.
How does quality control work?
Before the run starts, we send you samples for approval. We then check the production (shapes, paint, assembly), and our team goes on site to the partner factory (visit in October 2026).
