The short answer

Premium and luxury brands turn to collectible figures and art toys because they share the same codes: scarcity, desirability, craftsmanship, a link with artistic creation and drop culture. A limited, numbered and beautifully packaged figure becomes an object of desire and conversation that extends the brand’s universe well beyond a campaign.

In fashion, streetwear and luxury, a new object has settled on the shelves: the collectible figure. Designer art toys, signed limited editions, collaborations between brands and artists: the trend reaches far beyond the circle of collectors. Why do these objects appeal so much to premium brands? And how do you turn one into a real success?

Why do art toys speak to luxury?

Because they share the same codes.

Scarcity. A limited edition, announced and respected, creates value. It is the very principle of luxury.

Craftsmanship. A beautiful figure takes design, digital sculpting, a prototype, precise moulds and careful painting. That craftsmanship shows and can be felt.

The link with art. Art toys were born at the crossroads of design, illustration and contemporary art. Our own EQSO sculptures are shown at art fairs, from Paris to Osaka.

Drop culture. An announced release, a limited quantity, a community waiting: the mechanism is the same as for a pair of sneakers or a limited-edition fashion piece.

What does a collectible figure bring to a brand?

  • An object of desire that brings the brand’s universe into its customers’ everyday lives.
  • A story: the story of the character, the artist, the collaboration.
  • Conversation: an object people photograph, share and show off.
  • A new audience, drawn to street culture and collabs.
  • An exceptional gift for top customers, partners and teams.

How do you make a collectible figure a success?

1. A design that means something. The character must carry the brand’s DNA without being a simple logo in volume. A piece that feels too much like advertising does not win collectors over.

2. Finishes to match. Exact colours, flawless painting, possibly special effects (metallic, chrome, flocking). Every detail is scrutinised.

3. Scarcity you stand by. Announce a quantity and keep to it. Numbering makes each piece unique.

4. Packaging people keep. Rigid box, insert, exclusive artwork, signed certificate of authenticity: at Popterror, every EQSO art toy comes this way.

5. A launch designed as a drop. Teasing, release date, sales channels, visuals: the object has to arrive with real staging.

What about working with an artist?

Pairing an artist with a brand figure brings a point of view, a signature and legitimacy. Our first collaboration was with the Lille-based artist MEDA, who reinterpreted our three Series 1 art toys in a series of hand-signed A2 posters, now sold out. This kind of dialogue between two universes is exactly what collectors look for, and it is what we offer brands with EQSO: see our page on how to collaborate with EQSO.

How do you fit the figure into your brand strategy?

A collectible figure is not an isolated object: it works when it is part of a wider plan.

  • In store: the piece becomes a window feature, a traffic driver, an object people come to see.
  • As a gift: for top customers, partners and the press, it is a strong alternative to the usual corporate gifts.
  • At events: an edition reserved for guests at a show, a fair or a store opening creates a lasting memory.
  • On social media: the unboxing, the numbering and the scarcity get shared naturally.
  • Over time: a series that returns every season, with a new colourway or a new collaboration, sets up a regular appointment with the community.

Which questions should you prepare before contacting us?

  1. What is the main goal: image, sales, gift, event?
  2. Which audience do you want to reach?
  3. What quantity, and how will it be distributed?
  4. Do you already have a character, or does it need to be created?
  5. What release date are you aiming for?
  6. What budget are you considering? For a first idea, use our custom figure cost estimator.

Which mistakes should you avoid?

  1. Making a giveaway dressed up as a collectible: the value is lost if the object feels cheap.
  2. Not respecting the announced quantity: collectors’ trust, once lost, does not come back.
  3. Neglecting the packaging and the certificate.
  4. Launching without a story: a figure without a story is just one more object.
  5. Forgetting lead times: a carefully made collector’s edition takes time, see our guide on how long it takes to make a figure.

Frequently asked questions

Why do luxury brands make art toys?

Because art toys share their codes: limited editions, objects of desire, links with contemporary art and street culture. It is also a way to speak to a new generation of customers who respond to collabs and limited releases.

What quantity for a brand’s collector’s edition?

It depends on your community and your channels: what matters is announcing a quantity and sticking to it. Our own Series 2 art toys are limited to 300 pieces per model.

Do you need to work with an artist?

It is not mandatory, but a collaboration with an artist brings a story, a signature and legitimacy with collectors. That is what we did with the artist MEDA around EQSO.

How do you make a figure truly premium?

Through the consistency of the whole: a strong design, careful finishes, numbering, a signed certificate and packaging people want to keep. Details matter at every step.

How much does a collectible figure cost?

The unit cost is higher than in a large run, because of the small quantity, the finishes and the packaging, but so are the perceived value and the selling price. Every project gets a tailored quote, starting from €10,000.
